Project Bags have longer zippers than most bags so that the bag can open up fully and be flexible to hold lots of items. It allows the bag to open up more. Also, when you are grabbing large knitting needles or pulling yarn out of it, a long zipper prevents getting your yarn from getting accidentally caught on the zipper.
