Hand-carved realistic mussel shell opener with barnacles cast in bronze. This piece is one that I worked on for a long, long time before I found it realistic enough for casting. I think that was in part because the shores of my favorite place on earth are littered with these barnacled mussel shells and I just had to do a good job to give them a proper homage. The mix between the sweeping, dark texture of the mussel along with the white and crisp aesthetic of the barnacle have always captivated and inspired me.
