This pin design is inspired by the snow globe from Citizen Kane (1941), which begins the mystery of “Rosebud.” Interestingly, the origin of the first film snow globe is unknown, though Erwin Perzy is credited with inventing it in 1900 while trying to improve surgical lighting. His experiment with water-filled glass spheres and glitter led to the creation of the snow globe. There are many other fascinating points in the history of the snow globe (like their underwater assembly in the 20s) but for now let’s focus on this new pin version. It measures 46.5mm high, which was the smallest I could make it without sacrificing the effects or details. It has gold plating, four colours, and two pinbacks to keep it firmly in place. The transparent acrylic panel is filled with glitter quicksand and white mineral oil to create the swirly snow. I worked on this one for months and I love how it turned out, and how it feels like its own little contained world.
