As a mother of two, I thought I had prepared my children for life's adventures until tragedy struck on August 12, 2016. My son, Theo drowned while swimming with friends at the lake, prompting me to embark on a quest for answers. Through meetings with the Army Corp of Engineers and the local fire department, I learned that buoyancy is the key to preventing drowning death. Further interviews revealed that people avoid wearing life jackets/personal flotation device (PFD) due to the aesthetic and the bulkiness of the current life jack options and their embarrassment over a lack of swimming confidence. I was determined to address these issues and created a sleek, fun, functional, and fashionable PFD, and that’s exactly what I did! Our PFD which holds a provisional patent is the innovation that will make swim safety as natural as wearing a bathing suit!
