The English dolly drum was commonly used in British homes and laundries during the late 19th and 20th century to wash clothes. These cylindrical containers are made out of zinc or galvanized metal with a ribbed or corrugated surface that adds strength and durability to each tub. Each tub has a weathered, industrial look, often marked by small dents, scratches, and rusty patina from years of use. Some dolly drums feature a sturdy side handles for lifting or tipping, and may have a an attached soap dish. Each one is different yet all have a barrel shaped design with a ribbed exterior.
