About Faneek's Coney Island

Faneek's, a iconic establishment in Fall River, has a rich history and interesting anecdotes. Originally located on Stafford Road, Faneek's Lounge was a popular venue for wedding receptions in the late 1950s. However, when the state of Massachusetts decided to build route 24 through Stafford Road, the property was taken by eminent domain, and Faneek's was forced to relocate to its current location on Rhode Island Ave. The man behind Faneek's was Tony "Faneek" Fernandes, an eccentric individual. It was discovered that "Faneek" is the word "fanatic" translated from Portuguese to broken English. He not only owned Faneek's but also lived in the backroom where the counter and fryers are now. Faneek was known for his love of clocks and had them displayed all over the walls. Two of his clocks still remain in the establishment. In 1978, Faneek's was sold to Al and Alice Ploude. They allowed Faneek to continue living in the backroom. That year, the mighty blizzard of 1978 hit, but Faneek's remained open to cater to snow plow drivers and shovelers, thanks to Faneek's presence and his hot pot of coffee. Faneek's has gone through several ownership changes throughout the years. We are currently the fourth generation family owners. During the pandemic we received multiple requests for our secret recipe. Our answer was to create a shelf stable Coney sauce mix for people to make our very own secret sauce at home! This spice mix concentrate will make you 2 pints of our secret Coney sauce!
